About the Executive Director of Military Education Programs

Robert Glover is the Executive Director of ROTC and Military Education Programs at Houston Community College, a position he has held after a distinguished career in the United States Marine Corps, where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

A 1985 graduate of Texas A&M University, Glover began his military service at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, as an Air Intercept Officer. His career progressed rapidly, with significant assignments that included serving as an Air Defense Coordinator and participating in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm aboard the USS Tripoli, Operation Restore Hope in Mogadishu, Somalia, and Operation Iraqi Freedom in both Ramadi and al Q’aim region in the al Anbar Province.

Throughout his military tenure, Lieutenant Colonel Glover demonstrated exceptional leadership and tactical expertise, earning credentials from prestigious institutions such as the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron-One. He conducted over 1,500 ground-controlled intercepts and played crucial roles in operations, including the establishment of airspace management in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. After transitioning to the Active Reserve Program, he held key logistics and command positions, including overseeing the divestiture of the HAWK missile system, marking him as the last HAWK Missile Battalion Commander in the Marine Corps.

In the latter part of his career, Lieutenant Colonel Glover served in various capacities that emphasized training and readiness, including overseeing the training of over 185,000 Marines and sailors while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His efforts in Iraq focused on civil-military operations, which involved rebuilding critical infrastructure and supporting local governance.

After retiring in 2008, he continued his commitment to service, enhancing his qualifications with multiple graduate certificates in national security, public policy, and emergency management as well as serving as a defense contractor in support of our warfighters around the globe.

Lieutenant Colonel Glover's military accolades reflect his dedication and excellence, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal and two Combat Action Ribbons. His extensive experience and educational background position him as a leader in military education, where he continues to support the development of future service members and our HCC students.
