As we look to the future and continued growth of HCC Coleman College, it is important for HCC to reconfirm its commitment to ensuring the success of students, support of faculty, and investment by the community. After thoughtful examination of our existing circumstances, to include the recent ADN program voluntary closure, and in the best interest of the institution, a transition is necessary for continued excellence.

assume the role of Chancellor of the Houston Community College (HCC) System with a keen sense of purpose and gratitude to the HCC Board of Trustees for the confidence placed in me indicated by their appointment. I welcome the opportunity to work with our outstanding HCC faculty and staff to help effect positive change in the lives of students and the community.

Regrettably, I write to inform you that Dr. Kurt Ewen, our colleague, and friend, passed away Saturday morning after a lengthy battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
