Comcast gift boosts digital access for HCC students

Aug 28, 2024

A donation from Comcast Texas will boost student digital literacy at Houston Community College and help shrink the digital divide.

The $20,000 gift to the HCC Foundation continues Comcast’s support of HCC’s education mission. It is part of the company’s Project UP, a $1 billion initiative to advance digital opportunities nationwide.

The donation helps students who are supporting their families while trying to further their careers, said HCC IT instructor Christopher Ganim.

“They know that education is key to their goals, but when they must decide between paying for tuition and feeding their families, tuition can become a luxury that many cannot afford,” he said.

Jose Espinel, Comcast Texas regional senior vice president, said the community investments will improve life for generations of Texas residents of all backgrounds.

“Everyone deserves a chance to participate in the digital economy,” he said. “You can’t do that without the resources and skills to use the internet. Our commitment will ensure that people from all backgrounds can connect to the moments that matter most.”
